Pim Van Hemmen is an award-winning photographer and editor who comes from a long line of sailors. His background as a trained photojournalist and seasoned sailor gives him a unique blend of experience and passion for marine photography.
Pim knows how to capture the quiet beauty, and conversely, the speed and raw power of sailboats, powerboats and commercial shipping vessels. As a lifelong sailor, Pim applies his knowledge of the water, and the crafts that ply them, to his marine photography.
He is available for personal, commercial, advertising and editorial marine photography assignments anywhere in the world.
Pim spent ten years as a photographer for The Star-Ledger in Newark, New Jersey covering sports, news and world happenings. He covered a wide range of events from American football and professional golf to the United States Navy in the Adriatic Sea and the ethnic cleansing in Rwanda.
In 2000, as the assistant managing editor for photography, he built a brand-new photo department at the newspaper that went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography, and hundreds of other regional, national and international prizes.
He lives in Fair Haven, NJ with his wife, Jeanne-Marie, a maritime attorney, and their two children.
